:: Sigma reinforces its presence in northwestern Mexico

San Pedro Garza García, N.L. Mexico. October 30, 2008.- Sigma Alimentos, S.A. de C.V. (Sigma) the leader in Mexico’s refrigerated foods market, announced today it has acquired the “Longmont” brand of processed meats from its former owner, Butterball, LLC, the largest producer of turkey food products in the U.S.A. The amount of the consideration paid was not disclosed.

“Longmont” cold cuts are commercialized mainly in the northwest of Mexico, including the states of Baja California, Sonora and Sinaloa, where they enjoy high recognition and market leadership. Annual sales amount to more than U.S. $20 million.

This transaction is in line with Sigma’s strategy for growth through acquisitions, which the company has been consistently executing as demonstrated with recent operations, like the incursion in South America’s market through the acquisition of Braedt, one of the market leaders in cold cuts in Peru, and the acquisition made last year of Mexican Cheese Producers, a Wisconsin-based cheese manufacturer in the U.S.A.

Mario Paez, Sigma’s President, stated that “this acquisition is in line with our strategy to continue developing the processed meats market in Mexico and the U.S. Hispanic market. At the same time, it allows us to reinforce our presence in a region with high-growth potential, such as northwestern Mexico. Additionally, due to the high recognition and quality the Longmont products have, coupled with our extensive distribution network, we can expand their presence in other regions of Mexico as well. We are very pleased with this transaction.”
